Naturally Raised Turkeys

Vermont naturally-raised turkeys and chickens are the world standard for healthy and tasty poultry. By allowing our turkeys and our chickens to roam in an un-crowded environment, we afford them the natural, stress-free life and healthy diet that nature intended. Misty Knoll Farms is a family-owned and operated farm producing the finest naturally raised turkeys and chickens available from Vermont.

Processed On Site

Naturally grown birds take longer to mature, but the resulting flavor is well worth it. By processing our birds on-site in our own USDA-inspected facility, the birds sustain much less stress. We process the poultry carefully and grade by hand, assuring that only the finest birds are offered for sale.

Commonly asked questions:

Are the turkeys organic? No. The turkeys we sell are not organic, however they are very close. Per Misty Knoll: The birds are fed a non-medicated grain mixture with the proper amount of vitamins, protein and fat for proper growth, they are never fed antibiotics or hormones. They use only their own protected water sources.

How long will my turkey stay fresh? The fresh turkey delivered to our store should be cooked on Thanksgiving. If you are not purchasing your turkey for Thanksgiving then you should freeze it until it’ is ready to be cooked.

How should I cook my turkey? The bag that the turkey is packed in contains proper storage, handling and cooking instructions.

Where are the giblets? The giblets and neck are stored in separate areas of the turkey. The giblets are stored in the neck cavity and the neck is stored in the body cavity.

Why did I order one size and receive a different size? Turkeys grow at different rates each year. Although we pride ourselves on the selection of sizes that we provide our customers with, much of the size selection is based on factors we cannot control. Please understand there may be size variations, but we will always do our best to meet your needs.

My turkey seems to be hard to the touch. The turkeys have been held in a cooler at 29 degrees Fahrenheit. Poultry freezes at approximately 27 degrees Fahrenheit. The turkey is not frozen, but a this outer crust may be evident. This is a safeguard to preserve freshness.

How large a turkey should I order? It depends. To find out how much breast meat will be on our turkey, multiply the weight of the turkey by .33. This will give you an approximate yield of white meat. Dark meat multiply by .11. This does not include wings or drumsticks. Generally, 2-4 people = 10 – 16#, 4-8 people = 11-22#.
