YFM hosts the National Bison Association Eastern Bison Conference

The Eastern Bison Conference at Pitcher Mountain Farm: A Gathering of Passion and Progress

This summer, we had the honor of hosting the National Bison Association’s Eastern Bison Conference at Pitcher Mountain Farm. It was an incredible experience bringing together bison ranchers, industry experts, and enthusiasts from across the region to discuss the future of bison farming, sustainability, and best management practices.

A Meeting of Minds and Mission

The conference was a hub of knowledge sharing, with presentations on topics ranging from herd health and pasture management to the latest research on bison genetics and market trends. Experts and seasoned ranchers shared invaluable insights, while new and aspiring bison farmers had the opportunity to ask questions and gain guidance on starting and expanding their herds.

Hands-On Learning and Farm Tours

One of the highlights of the conference was the on-site farm tour at Pitcher Mountain. Attendees had the opportunity to see firsthand how we manage our bison herd using sustainable grazing techniques, heavy-use areas, and rotational pastures to ensure land regeneration and animal well-being. It was a great way to showcase our commitment to responsible land and animal stewardship, a core value we hold dear at Yankee Farmer’s Market and Pitcher Mountain Farm.

Strengthening the Bison Community

Beyond the educational sessions, the conference fostered a sense of camaraderie among bison producers. Whether sharing a meal featuring delicious bison meat or networking during informal gatherings, the event reinforced the importance of collaboration in growing the bison industry. The passion for bison and sustainable agriculture was evident in every conversation, making the event not just informative, but also deeply inspiring.

Looking to the Future

As bison ranchers, we are always looking ahead—to the growth of our herds, the improvement of our land, and the continued expansion of the market for this incredible animal. Hosting the Eastern Bison Conference was a powerful reminder of the dedication and resilience within this industry. We’re excited to continue working alongside fellow ranchers, industry leaders, and organizations like the National Bison Association to ensure a bright future for bison farming.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, shared their knowledge, and helped make this event such a success. If you’re interested in learning more about bison farming or joining us for future events, stay tuned—we’d love to have you be part of this growing movement!
