Inclined Bed Therapy

Inclined Bed Therapy

This is one of my favorite biohacking techniques of them all! So what the heck is it? Simple, just raise the head of your bed up above the foot, anywhere from 6-8 inches works best. You're really aiming for a 5 degree angle. The point is to raise your head so you're sleeping on an upward incline. Keep in mind this is NOT an adjustable bed where the bottom remains horizontal and just your head is propped up. In this case the entire bed is raised.

It's especially easy if your bed is already on a bed frame. Just pop some bricks or boards under the top feet of the frame. It will take some time to get used to it. But after awhile you don't notice a thing.

Some of the benefits include:

  • Improved blood circulation
  • Improved glymphatic drainage from the brain
  • Easing symptoms associated with Alzheimer's, diabetes, glaucoma, migraines, multiple sclerosis, sleep apnea, acid reflux, edema, varicose veins and more
  • Metabolism boost
  • Enhanced immune function

The idea behind inclined bed therapy is to use gravity to your advantage. An inclined bed has great potential to assist with a variety of ailments including sleep apnea, snoring, acid reflux, poor circulation, spinal injuries and cerebral palsy. Keep in mind, this is not meant for babies or those with high risk of blood clots. As with any new changes, consult your doctor if you have questions or concerns.

Ever been camping? When you place your sleeping bag on the ground, what's the natural tendency for placement? With the head uphill of course. Our bodies know what's best for us. It's just taking time to listen and do what comes natural.

Personally I've been doing this since 2015. When I sleep anywhere besides my own bed it takes some time to adjust to the flat position again! This is one of the many important sleep hacks that I love and recommend.
